Message of the Day:

Some friends and I have just launched MindThrow, a site designed to help you find new things to do based on your current interests. Check it out, and make sure to send any feedback you've got, positive or negative, to mindthrowATgmailDOTcom.

Stick a fork in him, because Obama is done. While speaking to megarich leftist donors in San Francisco, Barack Obama tried to explain to them how us poor rubes in the flyover states think:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.

And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Having grown up in California among such leftists, yes, that's pretty much what they think of middle-America. To them, the only reason anyone believes in God, the Second Amendment, or controlling illegal immigration is because of bitterness and fear -- never genuine faith, well-reasoned economics, or carefully-considered philosophy. Anyone who doesn't agree with leftist orthodoxy is prima facie either evil, ignorant, or both.

The part about "clinging" to religion is particularly galling, considering that Obama and his family spent 20 years (still counting) in a church that sings "God Damn America" and believes that white people invented AIDS to kills blacks. His church is built around "antipathy toward people who aren't like them"! given his church background, it's no surprise that Obama thinks religious believers are equivalent to xenophobic racists.

Ace has the best roundup of reactions. Ed Morrissey explains that this is why rookies shouldn't run for president. Mayhill Fowler broke the story and has the audio. Glenn Reynolds has more links than I can count.
