Via JV is a link to The Columnar/Tube Cape in Russia, a very strange geological formation of columnar basalt, probably made by aliens or antediluvians.

Nearly-perfect geometric crystal and mineral formations have always fascinated me. Take, for example, a simple iron pyrite cube.. growing out of entirely non-uniform host material.. it's a stunning visual contrast. The brilliance of the shapes and certain colors (azurite is a favorite of mine.. for it's deep blue color) are also appealing.
Other favorites of mine include: purple-tipped green fluorite, rhodochrosite, amethyst, celestite, vanadanite (which, like basalt, often forms hexagonal structures), dioptase, chalcopyrite, labradorite, and chalcanthite.
Look them all up, if you're interested. You'll probably find them as beautiful and fascinating as I do.
I love caves. There are some great ones here in Missouri that I haven't been to yet. Gotta do that soon.
