Probably because of the caramelisation around the edges of the cake. I've decided that the best way to eat an angel food cake is to eat all the top crust first, then slice the rest of the cake into flat pieces. The flat pieces can be grilled on low heat to caramelize more of the cake for extra-tasty goodness.

I'd like to know where you get your AFC. Everyone one that I've ever had has tasted like cardboard. Personally, I like Sex In a Pan cake. Oh so good.

I've never been a fan of angel food cake or its crust. It's just a canvas on which any sweet flavor can be painted; it has no real character of its own. Hell, even plain yellow cake is better.
I love angel food cake. I always have it for my birthday.
Looks like we've got an AFC divide between the Left and the Right!
IC: I get mine from the grocery store. It's very moist.
*Ben* has angel food cake for his birthday? The irony is astounding. ;)
I make a wonderful red velvet cake with whipped cream cheese frosting.. now *that's* a cake worth eating.
.. and here's one of the latest things to come out of my kitchen.. what I call "Chessboard Cheesecake". This is a picture of the first attempt. Subsequent attempts will feature different variation of fruit "chess pieces".
