So I'm trying to cut back on caffeine, reducing my intake from two to three diet sodas a day to just one in the morning. I'm not sure why I'm doing it, but people have told me that when they've quit caffeine they feel great and full of energy, etc. I've been down to one soda a day for a few weeks now, and I don't have any "cravings" for caffeine, but I also don't feel great or energetic. The afternoons seem especially slow and tend to drag on forever, and I don't feel as sharp as I used to after drinking a soda. So, I'm not sure this caffeine-free existence is for me.

Switch to coffee or, even better, tea. As long as you don't load it with sugar, it's better for you than any soda is.
Mark: I drink diet soda, so there's no sugar to worry about.
I know, I was referring to sugar in coffee or tea.
I found that when I eliminated caffeine from my diet, I started falling asleep easier, sleeping better, and waking up more wholly in the morning (versus dragging for a half hour)
When I cut out caffeine (mainly, coffee) about 3 weeks ago, I lost weight (which is probably due to cutting out most sodas), feel more relaxed and I sleep a lot better than I used to. I also feel better generally. Also, I noticed what Rick C pointed out: I am up and ready to go in the morning versus dragging around. Cutting out my morning coffee saved me about 30 minutes of getting ready in the morning.
Hmm.. I've been having coffee in the morning (only) for many years and haven't had any problems falling asleep at night, maintaining sleep, or waking up in the morning.
Everyone responds to caffeine (and most other drugs) a little differently, I suppose.
