The most galling thing about the Democrats' victory is how the world is gloating over perceived American weakness. I hope the world is misunderestimating the Democrats, but that remains to be seen.
The electoral rebuke for President Bush and the resignation of his defense secretary, both deeply unpopular away from American shores over the Iraq war, was celebrated throughout Europe, the Middle East and Asia. ...But from Paris to Pakistan, politicians, analysts and ordinary citizens said Wednesday they hoped the Democratic takeover of both Houses of Congress would force Bush to adopt a more conciliatory approach to global crises, and teach a president many see as a "cowboy" a lesson in humility.
In an extraordinary joint statement, more than 200 Socialist members of the European Parliament hailed the American election results as "the beginning of the end of a six-year nightmare for the world."
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who has consistently railed against the Bush administration, called the election "a reprisal vote."
Screw you all, you'll get yours. I hope you enjoy wearing burkhas, stoning homosexuals, and stampeding off bridges, because that's your future if America falters and President Bush's overall vision dies unfulfilled.

Why is it that Socialists celibrate when Democrats win? Why do the terrorists celibrate when Democrats win? Does no one wonder these things? Are they all (the terrorists, socialists, communists etc.) so stupid that they don't even recognise that their days are numbered now that the Party with ALL the right ideas is in power?
Every bloody one of them is THAT stupid? Or maybe, just maybe, they know something the usefull idiots over here don't know.
What are the odds?
Looking beyond the political dogmatism and moral absolutism of both the left and the right, there's been a palpable sea-change in the perception of the United Satates since George W. Bush was elected as President.
I'm in the UK, and back when Clinton was top man, America's critics were a fringe minority. You'd be hard-pushed to find many outside of the US these days, though, who has anything good to say about your President, America's moral authority, America's foreign policy, evangelical religion... actually, anything.
Screw us all, you say.
Well, why change the habit of the last 6 years?
Peter: Being popular isn't the most important thing in the world. Sometimes you have to rock the boat, especially when your civilization is on the line. You Brits and the Aussies have been stalwart allies, and I sincerely hope that, despite all of our discomfort with war, we can keep up the good fight.
Peter,
Forgive us if we feel betrayed by the EU.
Back when Ronald Reagan was President, most Europeans hated his guts just as much as they do the current president. So, people didn't begin going stupid within the past 6 years of Bush's reign.
I'm just curious about how the Continentals will react to their Muslim guests if they start getting out of line within the next few decades. I get the feeling that they won't be pointing any fingers at us when they have to fight like Milosevic to prevent the Yugoslavia-like disintegration of their own nations at the hands of the Muzzies.

"The American people have put their feet on the right path by ... realizing their president's betrayal in supporting Israel," the terror leader said. "So they voted for something reasonable in the last elections."
Hmmm, a democrat is something reasonable to a terrorist. Interesting...
Peter: "Screw us all, you say."
No, Peter. We would prefer that you quit screwing yourselves, and instead started working on preserving what remains of your culture and freedom. We don't take the Europeans seriously because they don't take themselves seriously. Within a generation or two the Europeans will all be dhimmis anyway, so their opinion is irrelevant.

The Democrats are eager to surrender. I was all for giving them a chance to hang tough, but it only took them about 5 seconds to decide not to.
Michael,
your rhetoric is unfortunate. The Democrats are most assuredly not "surrendering". I respect that you supported the war, even though I opposed it. However, at some point you need to recognize that the American people on Nov. 7 have said that they want to see a new direction. You may feel that "stay the course" is fine, but the electorate does not.
Manish: I don't think we should keep doing things exactly as we have, but I think the Democrats' plans are a step in the wrong direction. The Islamofascists see it as a surrender, and are already partying. Doesn't that bother you?
The American people, most of whom don't really try to stay informed, have had their spirit broken by drumbeat of negativism the Democrats have played out in their attempt to regain power.
The ultimate degradation of American political discourse is the notion among the 30-40 percent of hard-core neocons and Bush backers is that the rest of American is in league with the enemy. That a vote for Kerry, Murtha, Pelosi, et al. is a vote for the European parliament’s socialist party, Al Quada, Hamas, and Hugo Chavez.
It's been a glorious strategy for the Republican Party for 12 years. Let's see how it works from here on out.
MW: The Islamofascists see it as a surrender, and are already partying. Doesn't that bother you?
I don't care what the terrorists think. Didn't you explicitly not care what the French thought?

I have no idea what you are refering to. Iraq is turning into a mess. There is some good happening, but there is a lot of bad happening too. Particularly in the last few days. The President said he wanted to prevent another 9/11. Well, the American death toll in Iraq is getting pretty close to the death toll on 9/11. And this doesn't even count the Iraqi's who've died and who are still in the middle of what is looking more and more like civil war. Even the military isn't that optimistic.
I don't remember an objection from you when the American public thought that the majority of 9/11 hijackers were Iraqis. Nor do I remember boo when the American public for a long time thought that we had found WMDs in Iraq.
Let me add one thing...the terrorists are going to spin everything as a victory. In their minds, they are always winning. They will also spin the US staying as victory too.
Manish: The French aren't trying to murder us all and impose sharia on the world, are they?
You're very wrong about Iraq. Is it going optimally? No. But go read the blogs of some military folks who are there on the ground... they're not nearly as pessimistic as you or the Vietnam-stolgic media, who long for another US defeat.
I'm not sure what you're talking about as far as Americans thinking that the 9/11 hijackers were Iraqi. I never heard that.
As for WMD, good grief, they've found like a bazillion tons of WMD in Iraq and the New York Times just admitted that Iraq was less than a year away from a nuclear weapon. That link probably requires payment to read now, but here's the info.
MW: they're not nearly as pessimistic as you or the Vietnam-stolgic media, who long for another US defeat.
Oh no..you figured out the truth. I long for a US defeat, because I hate America..which of course is why I choose to live here..to infiltrate America and spread the jihadist message..except I'm Hindu and we've had our own problems with Islamic terrorists..so I guess that means that I hate myself. But wait, how can I hate myself AND America.
