So I've spent the past few days trying to play Star Wars: Empire at War, but it just made me long for StarCraft. SW:EaW isn't a bad game by any means, but it's more complex than it needs to be, and the interface is slow and clunky. Maybe it's just my computer, but the load times are terrible and really disrupt gameplay. The good news is that I was motivated to unearth my dormant copy of StarCraft....

I was on the second-to-last Protoss mission before I quit playing a few months ago. I'll get back to it sometime.

Still, I'd rather play Rise of Nations or Civilization 3(or 4).

Hmm.. Civilization? I prefer the first two versions of Civilization. The old DOS game was the best one, IMO.

As for your computer, MW, maybe you should build a new one with a Core 2 Duo CPU in it. I did.. and I love it.

I liked the first two games too, but I prefer the newer ones since they have better enemy AI and included territorial borders. Before Civ 3, it was annoying when military units from a "neutral" empire would wander around next to my cities. They can't surprise attack me anymore like they used to.

Plus, I love how the ICBM's have an unlimited attack range now.

Try going back to the old-school turn-based games. There are still a few out there. I'm into Laser Squad Nemesis, which is PVP only.

I get much more enjoyment out of playing old NES games on my computer than I do playing the latest-and-greatest computer and console games.

I've still got the cartridges for Metal Gear and Mario/Duck Hunt, but I doubt they work anymore.

That's why emulators rule.

Mark said:

Oh yes.. emulators are the way to go. Jnes is my favorite. Can't beat classics like Bubble Bobble, Megaman (and any of the sequels), the Mario Bros. series, Paperboy, and Zelda.

I use FCE Ultra.

The first 3 Mega Man games were great, but the rest of the sequels, not so much.

I haven't played Megaman 4, 5, or 6 for such a long time.. I don't remember if I liked them or not.

An obscure game I also enjoyed was WorldRunner.. and Bubble Bobble 2 is fun too.

The SNES is the best emulator platform I've used thus far, but I've got a few Genesis ROMs that are also fun to play from time to time. Also GBA.

I've got emulators for those in addition to the the ones used for arcade and Playstation 1 games. Unfortunately, I'm not going to have much time to mess with them.

I have been playing Star Wars: Empire at War for about a year now. I also own StarCraft. But really I think both games are pretty great. I mean Star Wars:EaW might be slow but it is a really great game. I really like the fact that the Death Star is in it. But then StarCraft is really great to. I mean it has a great intro and great sorylines. But my choice is definetly Star Wars: Empire at War.
