Today I filed my dissertation and completed the final paperwork to officially be done with my Ph.D.! Yay! All my obligations have been fulfilled, and I received my Certificate of Completion that will stand in place of my diploma for the next six months. Woohoo!

The actual process of filing a dissertation is like an arts-and-crafts project from hell. There's a 35-page instruction manual that covers the rules for how everything is supposed to be formatted and assembled so it can be processed and archived by the university, but by God's grace I managed to get all the details right and sailed through. Still, I don't understand why you have to turn in a paper copy to be put onto microfilm... why not give them an electronic copy and then let the university mangle it as they please? Maybe they'd rather have you do it so it looks they way you want it to. I don't know, but it was a headache.

Anyway, now I need to order a school ring. Any recommendations for companies that do that sort of thing?

My high school class ring was made by Artcarved. It's been a very durable and good-looking ring.

Jostens. They have a great return policy and will fix it if anything happens to your ring. They even replaced a flawed stone in my husband's college ring (don't give a geology major a flawed stone...)

Check with the school, though, as they may have a preferred partner who has access to the official emblems or may have special pricing. Usually at the bookstore.

Jostens rings aren't as good, IMO.
