In the past, Iran's threats against Israel were more veiled, and mostly delivered in Arabic so that they escaped the notice of the Western media, but today Iran once again called for Israel to be "wiped off the map".
Governments around the world expressed shock and scorn Thursday at the Iranian president's call for Israel to be "wiped off the map," and several summoned Tehran's envoys in their capitals for a reprimand. However, Israeli calls for Iran to be expelled from the United Nations over the remarks by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad were not immediately taken up by other nations.
In a speech Wednesday, Ahmadinejad denounced Israel and said a new wave of Palestinian attacks "will wipe this stigma from the face of the Islamic world." Citing the words of the founder of Iran's Islamic revolution, the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Ahmadinejad said: "Israel must be wiped off the map."
Israel Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on Thursday called for Iran to be expelled from the U.N., saying "a state which calls for the destruction of another people cannot be a member of the United Nations." Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said Israel had not decided whether to ask officially for Iran's removal.
Israel's deputy ambassador to Britain, Zvi Rav-Ner, said it was unheard of for a U.N. member state to call "for genocide and wiping off of another member state of the U.N."
So yeah, it's pretty dangerous to allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. Are the "pacifists" who defended Saddam Hussein going to go play human shield for the Iranian mullahs? When is the world going to start taking Islamofacist threats seriously?

He can wipe Israel of the map, and than let him come visit the area, and we shell see who is going to wipe who!
At least he had the balls to come out and say it, unlike the rest of the middle east countries that lie about peace and continue their support for removal of Israel. Maybe Iran thinks they can hide behind Iraq and not worry about a response from the US. We already know that nobody has to fear a response from the UN!
Why don't US and other western countries stop appeasing the mullahs. Support the Iranian opposition to get rid of these bastards.
Ummm...Iranians don't speak arabic, moron.
Cyrus:
Some do. I have some mostly-Persian relatives that speak Arabic. My Arab dad speaks Pharsee, a language usually associated with Iran. I have a lot of Persian/Iranian friends who speak Arabic as well as their native language of Pharsee.
Do your research before you go name calling.
I don't give a damn what your relatives speak --the Iranian gov't doesn't go around making 'veiled' threats to Israel in Arabic as this moron blogger claims because the official language of Iran is NOT Arabic, it is FARSI. The fact that he doesn't know that is an indication of how just about any moron can start a blog and style himself an expert.
And furthermore, the US and Israel do enough threatening of Iran. In fact the US has repeatedly threatened to NUKE Iran, www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/ article/2005/05/14/AR2005051400071_pf.html
Cyrus,
And people like you can point to normal strategic planning as evidence to what? Threats? Not even close. Your "evidence" is nothing more than gameplanning contingencies. Quite different from overt threats of wiping them out because they are infidels. Even the UN has never heard such an overt threat from one country to another. Pointing out arabic versus farsi is missing the point completely and has nothing to do with anything other than you have issues with the blog.
Cyrus is right, Farsi is the official language of Iran, it is unlikely anything would be "delivered in Arabic".
Actually it is an important point because it highlights how easy it is for so-called experts to make dumbass comments about the region without having the faintest clue about the basic facts.
"Ummm...Iranians don't speak arabic, moron."
True, but why isn't this sign in Farsi?

Didn't Ahmadinejad just tell his Arab neighbors to cease developing closer ties with Israel? Wouldn't he have spoken arabic to tell them that?
BTW, I wouldn't be calling the host a "moron" if I were you lest thou piss off his new wife after she politely addressed you.
You might have named yourself after Cyrus the Great, but you are more like Cyrus the Grating right now. Chill out....
OK, back to the topic at hand... I don't think Iran will get much more than a slap on the wrist by the UN or any of its members (save the Anglosphere and Israel). The thing is, that's what all of those nations want to happen, but their shock is that someone has the temerity to come out and say it.
Personally, I'm fed up with the Muslim nations of the Middle East, whether they speak Arabic, Farsi, or Durkadurka. I say we cordon off the area, and let Israel have at 'em.
Cyrus,
Ok, so you don't care about first-hand experience from the region. Typical, uninformed troll.
Shia Opinion: No one's arguing about the official language. Many Persians speak Arabic as well as Farsi.
Also, I have several newspapers from Iran that are entirely in Arabic. My aunt brought them back from a visit.
Interesting.
Gosh, excuse me for making a mistake and being in a hurry! Plus, I'm not aware of anyone "so-calling" me an expert on Iran. Look closely at the title of the blog: "Master of None".
Anyway, the point wasn't about Arabic specifically, or even Iran specifically. The point is that Muslims present one face to the world and another to the masses at home. Since few Westerners speak Arabic (to understand the Koran), or Farsi, or whatever, it's easy for the Muslim tyrants to spew hate and violence against the West without most of us noticing. The translations we generally get are highly misleading and modified to hide the true intent of the language, according to conversations I've had with native speakers.
