To the best of my knowledge, laws all around the country require cyclists to obey all the same traffic signs as motorists, but I can't even count the number of times I've watched bicycles zoom through stop signs without even so much as a "California stop". And now, a bicyclist has killed an old lady because of such recklessness, and he's being prosecuted for manslaughter just as if he'd been driving a car. Good!

For the record, Idaho allows cyclists to treat stop signs as yield signs and red lights as stop signs, which IMHO is much better public policy. There is a vast difference between a cyclist on a 30lb bike that is human powered and a several thousand pound vehicle which ought to be recognized. After all, a cyclist can't go on the freeway.
Frankly, I'm a little tired of being lectured by motorists about obeying the law. Every motorist I know:
a)drives above the speed limit whenever possible
b)drives too closely to the car in front of him/her
c)talks on their cellphone while driving with zero hesitation
All of these things are both illegal and dangerous to other users of the road.

I agree that the guy should be prosecuted, but disagree that he would be prosecuted if he were driving. Quite frankly, too many drivers get away with murder because most of these incidents are chalked up to being an "accident", when they were completely avoidable. Someone talking on a cellphone, driving with the windows fogged up, people who are in no mental shape to drive (too tired, etc.), changing the radio station, etc.
