Senator Dick Durbin has made yet another "apology" for his remarks equating American soldiers with Nazis.

"Some may believe that my remarks crossed the line," the Illinois Democrat said. "To them I extend my heartfelt apologies."

Some may believe? What do you believe, Senator? Do you believe that your comments crossed the line? I've had to make plenty of apologies in my life, and "I'm sorry you were offended" is much different from acknowledging, "what I said was wrong, and I shouldn't have said it".

I've watched the video of Sen. Durbin's apology and I think it was more than slimy. He apologised to "some" who thought his remarks were in poor taste. He invoked the words of Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, to indicate that, if his words turned out t... Read More

No I believe you were the one who veered off topic and on top of that Durbins comments on the floor weren't mistakes, they were prepared remarks. If it really was a 'mistake' he should fire his staff for writing it and he should of read what they wrote for him beforehand, heck if he misspronounced a word during his prepared remarks that would be a mistake. He knew what he was saying and he had it written before hand. Then he goes out in his apology to blame everyone else and not acknowledge what he said was wrong. They were much more than mistakes and they were far beyond stupid.

Poor choice of words to express my thoughts on the subject, I suppose.

When I said they were mistakes, I meant that they were the wrong things to say.... that it was a mistake on Sen. Durbin's part to say what he said.

The bottom line is that comparing anyone in the US government and military or their actions with Hitler and the Nazis is wrong... regardless of who is being likened to Hitler and/or the Nazis.

It's wrong when Sen. Durbin said it and it's wrong when Sen. Santorum said it.

You cannot denounce one without denouncing them all and call yourself anything other than a partisan or ideological nutjob.

I think calling people Nazis almost always backfires these days; it's old hat. Which is too bad, because sometimes some people actually do act like Nazis and it would be nice if the comparison were still useful.
