It's hilarious, but in a way I hope that Paris fashion designers are right about new men.
PARIS (AFP) - Macho man is an endangered species, with today's male more likely to opt for a pink flowered shirt and swingers' clubs than the traditional role as family super-hero, fashion industry insiders say.A study along these lines led by French marketing and style consultants Nelly Rodi was unveiled to Fashion Group International during a seminar Tuesday on future strategy for the fashion industry in Europe.
"The masculine ideal is being completely modified. All the traditional male values of authority, infallibility, virility and strength are being completely overturned," said Pierre Francois Le Louet, the agency's managing director.
Instead today's males are turning more towards "creativity, sensitivity and multiplicity," as seen already in recent seasons on the catwalks of Paris and Milan.
Pathetic, yes, but the reason I hope there's some validity to this belief is that "men" who dress and think as described above will never be able to compete successfully with me at any useful or substantial endeavor. The feminization of men is certainly bad for civilization, but it's good for me individually because it will end up improving my position relative to the average.

I'm not interested in men who are fake or flaky. I prefer substance over sparkle.
You have an interesting point, Michael. Unfortunately, it could also have negative results, such as further control being taken from men and given to feminists. That, IMHO, would not be a good thing, to say the least.
Men will do nearly anything to get laid.
BB: That's certainly consistent with my experience.
Wait a minute... you're looking to improve your position relative to the average? Aren't you already engaged?
John S.: It relates to a comment one of my teachers once said:
"Just because I'm married doesn't mean I can't read the menu, I just can't order from it."
Bonus points to those who guessed his subject: Moral Theology.
BB: Is that what you think these new fashions are about? Maybe you're right, but if so I don't think the target audience is women.
JS: I didn't actually mean in the dating department... I was thinking more along the lines of business.
I'll believe it when I see some good statistical data. Right now, I think it's just wishful thinking on the part of the gay men that design men's styles and run the promotions for men's departments.
I've noticed lately that you can't go into a men's department without being subjected to gay erotica (but maybe it's less prevalent outside the San Francisco Bary area). I don't think it helps sell anything. It's just what the people in charge of marketing like.
As a gay Wisconsin resident I can tell you that gay erotica is not the norm in the men's department of clothing stores around here.
Hey, did anyone see the survey that shows 40% of French men would like to become pregnant?
That's not a joke.

Maybe that helps explain some Paris fashion designers' ideas...
