If they get too sexy, they start calling more attention to themselves and their bodies than they do to the team. The last thing a team needs is to have people coming to their games to see something other than them playing.
There is a difference between acting sexy and being sexy. The article is about the former. Of course, you seem to be being facetious, so it's probably a moot point.
