I'm no fan of Jesse Jackson -- he's a charlatan and a blowhard -- and it's weird to see him getting involved at this late date with the Terri Schiavo debacle. First off, I've never heard of him doing anything without a racial angle. Secondly, there's basically no hope of saving Mrs. Schiavo now. Is her situation very high profile among black evangelicals? How odd.

To be utterly cynical, yes. Schiavo's case is something that polls well with Jackson's base of support, from whom he's gotten more and more skepticism over the last few years as he's aligned himself with the radical Left.

It should not be forgotten that, by and large, most voting blacks are fairly socially conservative. They vote Democrat because they've been indoctrinated and terrorized into believing Republicans are all "nigga hatas" by a very efficient, entrenched political machine, not because their values and goals align with the likes of Howard Dean or Noam Chomsky.
