I'll be really surprised if 2008 is Rice v. Hillary. Drudge is running a top story about Geena Davis playing the president on some new ABC show, and maybe I'm totally sexist, but it just looks absurd. I'm hesitant to write about this because I don't want to get deluged with hatemale, but I just don't think having a female for president would be a good idea.
I know, I know, lots of other countries do it. Margaret Thatcher did a good job for the UK, from what I know. Eh. Maybe my discomfort is due to my own experiences working for women: not good. I've worked for women employers and supervisors and professors in the past, and most of them have been very hard to deal with and not particularly effective. Not all of them, but most.
Maybe it has to do with Rice and Hillary. Rice will probably make a great Secretary of State, but she's pro-choice and holds some other positions that I just wouldn't want in a president. Hillary, of course, is straight out. Maybe if there were a female candidate I really liked I wouldn't feel so reluctant. Maybe I'm a misogynist pig.
Mostly I'm writing this because I'd like to be convinced that my gut reaction is wrong. And anyway, it's not like I'd vote against Rice if the Democrats nominate a man instead of Hillary.

And that once/month Female Monster can turn normally diplomatic women into raging, carnivorous she-beasts. The temptation to press the red button would be too great.
In the real world, I like Rice's position on the Second Amendment, dislike it on affirmative action, and couldn't give a rat's patoot what she thinks about abortion. I don't like the idea of Hillary Clinton being President, but for reasons having nothing to do with her sex.
Meanwhile, in TV Land, I'm still not sure which offends me more: President Martin Sheen or President Geena Davis.
I think the nature of a female President relates directly to your post on Men and Women Are Different 3: Competition as it relates to general habits of men and women. The female employees where I work tend to be far more vicious especially to other female employees. But there are always exceptions.
Besides isn't a misogynist just a man who hates women just as much as women hate eachother?
I think the Democrats have to either win back Congress or the Presidency. Divided government is the only way, it seems, that we can keep spending under control.... with one party controlling one section of government and the other party controlling another.
History has shown that with either the Democrats or, more recently, the Republicans in control of both Congress and the Presidency... spending has grown substantially.
As it is now, with our deficits increasing... dollar weakening... and foreign countries holding more and more of our debt..... we're not in good shape in the long run.
The President and the GOP is whipping everyone into a frenzy about Social Security... while almost completely ignoring a much larger problem coming around the corner: Medicare.
My mini-conspiracy theory:
ABC (being liberal Hollywierd) is gonna take a hit on ratings with this, but all in the best interest of floating that idea/fantasy of "a woman as president"; ala Hillary, which ABC hopes to persuade votes from the mindless twerps of the Michael Moron Left.
I don't really see it happening because I think too many people feel the way you do. If one party nominates a woman, then the other party will make sure to nominate a man. This way they can get some voters to switch parties. (I know you said you wouldn't, but I'm sure some people would.)
I don't know about that. The G.O.P. can run a man against Hillary, but the Dems would have a tough time running one against Condi. One debate between Condi and any schmoe likely to get the Democrat nod, and it would be obvious to everybody that the best man for the job - or arguably, the only man for the job - is a woman.
Michael,
Maybe you have a problem working for women because you have a problem with women, period. Or a problem with your ego in relationship to women. If I recall, you're not sure that women should even be allowed to vote.
I don't want this to sound hateful, but maybe the problem is with you, and not women.
My experience working with women is not distinguishable from my experience working with men.
My experience working with women in a professional setting has rarely been much different than my experience with men -- there are all types.
However, my experience with female managers tends to suggest that the type of woman who has the professional drive and career commitment to succeed in a large, competitive organization also often carries a chip on her shoulder. I've worked with a number of female managers who seemed to feel this constant need to prove that they could meet or exceed their male peers in any way -- and were often extremely obnoxious because of this overcompetitiveness. They assumed you were biased against them for their gender before you even opened your mouth.
The irony is that such interactions do, indeed, create a bias against their gender -- but not without reason nor experience.
(I should probably point out that I work in the professional software world, which is, as a career, very intense and demanding, as well as overwhelmingly male-dominated. So it's quite likely that the self-selection of women with the drive, motivation and skill set to pursue this path may have a strong influence on their common personality traits -- just as many male software engineers are highly introverted and socially awkward.)
Had good female and bad female bosses, good male and bad male bosses. It seems to me that in general good bosses are all good in more or less the same ways, but bad female bosses and bad male bosses are bad for different reasons. Incompetent men and women use different strategies to cover their asses. It is hard to say which is worse.
Condi would be good for just Secretary of state. that's It.... A match between Hillary and Condi... hahaha.... there is no match. Hillary would be the winner...Having said that. I have lots of black woman that I work with. Even they have said they would never vote for Condi. They would vote for Hillary for sure.
One big difference Condi is a puppet of the republican party. On the other hand, no one controls Hillary she will disagree have her own opinion and does not have a problem being straight forward regardless if you are a democrat or republican senator, representative, etc. She is definately not a puppet.
soo for those who say Hillary will never be president. You might have a big HUGE suprise in 08.
