I flipped on the radio this morning on the way to lunch and heard Rush Limbaugh slinging Zicam, the homeopathic cold remedy, and I thought to myself, Why, I've proclaimed the benefits of Zicam on my site, and I've never been paid thousands of dollars to do it! Yeah sure, a few people claim to have lost all sense of smell and taste after using the product, but for most people it works great and drastically lessens the suffering caused by the common cold. I even own stock in Matrixx Initiatives, because I believe in the product. So where's my payola?

They should at least buy a two-week Blogad or something...
As far as I know Zicam isn't homeopathic, it's just nonprescription. It's got zinc in it, but the zinc is full-strength. Homeopathic remedies are diluted to very small concentrations, sometimes so small that there is no measurable amount of the substance left in the remedy (it's believed that the substance's "energy" remains). Zinc supplements to shorten a cold have been studied scientifically and its side effects are considered minor enough to sell it over-the-counter.
I retract my previous comment; it says "homeopathic" on Zicam's own website.
WH: It does say that, but now that I've looked up the definition for homeopathic I'm not sure why it says that. What I meant to say is that it's not really a drug, it's a topical cold remedy. The zinc kills the cold viruses on contact in the nose and throat.
I am a victim of Anosmia due to use of Zicam.
If you would like to be a talking add for a product that can kill 2 of your senses in a matter of minutes go for it. I guess any one will do any thing to boost their 401. Do a little more investigating before you take for granted somthing is what they say it is. Zinc was studied in 1936 as a polio cure but it caused the same loss of sense as it does now. Matrixx tweaked the formula a little and but it back out as a nasal spray again. Guess what..... same effect... only this time someone is making money so..... you figure it out. in the mean time I am a 45 yr old woman who can't smell sh-t!! LITERALLY!!!

first off, what kind of idiot do you have to be to say "yeah sure, a few people..." ? what a total MORON you are. you should experience TOTAL anosmia before you make an IGNORANT statement like yours above.
second, it has NEVER been proven that Zicam even works! it's all in your head bro. ever hear of placebo? well thats what zicam basically is. a placebo that'll make you LOSE YOUR SENSE OF SMELL.
I believe that you are playing Russian Roulette with your nose. I too own the stock, and frequent the Yahoo Msg Board. Heck, i even pump the stock to no end, but....i would NEVER put that dangerous goop in my nose, i KNOW for sure that it causes anosmia, and MTXX will go down the tubes for this big mistake they made.
Inventor of Zicam has a bogus Ph.D from Diploma Mill. Dr R. Steven Davidson indeed!!!
"And it's not easy to take the company's claims for safety of the product at face value when the man who claims to have developed the product, one Robert S. Davidson, parts his name in the middle (as in R. Steven Davidson) and boasts a Ph.D. in "biopharmacuetical project management" from the so-called American University of Asturias, a Spanish-based diploma mill "university" that was shut down by the Spanish government after being caught issuing what purported to be advanced degrees in almost anything, to anyone whose checks didn't bounce. How can you define ANY homeopathic remedy as "homeopathic" when the product's active ingredient contains as much as two percent (in this case ionized zinc gluconate)?
I have a problem with the very same ingredient (zinc gluconate) and it's use on dogs as an FDA approved intra-testicularly injected compound that renders dogs sterile, THAT'S RIGHT....STERILE. And it's only allowed to be used by licensed DVMs. If zinc gluconate makes male dogs sterile, what business does it have being used as a "homeopathic" remedy UP and inside people's noses? And what makes this even more absurd is that the FDA approved it's use for veternarians to inject it inside a dog's testicles, but no one had the fore-thought to make sure it's safe to go inside a human nose. Unbelievable!
Homeopathy it is not. Marketing Zicam as "Homeopathy" is what they're doing, cuz people are stupid enough to buy that nonsense.
