Further proof that Mexico actively exports its poor and desperate.
MEXICO CITY - The Mexican government is giving out a colorful new comic book with advice for migrants, but immigration-control advocates worry that some of the tips may encourage illegal border crossers. The 32-page book, The Guide for the Mexican Migrant, was published in December by Mexico's Foreign Ministry. Using simple language, the book offers safety information for border crossers, a primer on their legal rights and advice on living unobtrusively in the United States.
Dramatic drawings show undocumented immigrants wading into a river, running from the U.S. Border Patrol and crouching near a hole in a border fence. On other pages, they hike through a desert with rock formations reminiscent of Arizona and are caught by a stern-faced Border Patrol agent.
"This guide is intended to give you some practical advice that could be of use if you have made the difficult decision to seek new work opportunities outside your country," the book says.
They come here, work for cash, and send the money back to Mexico. We pay for education and health care and law enforcement, and they reap the rewards. Why the heck wouldn't the Mexican government be keen to expand this revenue stream?
I don't understand why America constantly plays nice with Mexico. If we can't militarize the border, build a giant fence, or at least prosecute American employers of illegals, can't we put the thumb screws to the freaking third-rate Mexican government? Do we have to be total pansies?
(More on illegal immigration.)

I should've friggin known it. This aggravates me to no end...basically it sounds like a "How to illegally immigrate for Dummies." I do hope it doesn't include directions on how to avoid getting rounded up in the Border Patrol vans or how to avoid Texans with shotguns who guard their property. Maybe we will still have a fighting chance. The worst part is they NEVER LEAVE SAN DIEGO. Why risk getting caught at the Borders all around the 5 and the 15 freeways that exit San Diego? Let's just contain the problem in our city. Hey once they are in, there are certainly a lot of dishwasher jobs available for them. For frigssake. The worst part is how it severely impacts the public schools-my friends are teachers in San Diego and it is getting to the point where there are more ESL classes than regular. It is incredibly unfair to the already overburdened California public school system.
WSK: Very true, not to even mention the connections to crime and terrorism.
I've noticed you blathering on about the US being the most generous nation on Earth, so caring etc. blah blah blah.
The amount given to help the millions of people decimated by the tsunami? A whopping 33 cents, I'll say again, 33 cents per American. Yes, you Americans are so caring, so generous. You are the richest nation on Earth for crying out loud. Why does it take a plea by the incumbent president plus two former presidents to elicit any semblance of a decent response?
Thats a little off topic there champ, illegal immigration is a serious problem and a drain on resources that could be better ustilized by people here legally, as in not breaking the law.
But It also shows you aren't very good at math.
With a population of 293,027,571 and only going off the $350,000,000 in cash pledge by the Federal Government (not including food, man-power, military assets, other assets, & private donations) and setting up this thing we call division:
$350,000,000/293,027,571 = $1.20.
You may want to repeat the 2nd grade and learn how to divide.
Pruney: Plus, all the private donations you're ignoring.
Prune: What nationality are you?
Where did you find those stats? Here in America, we provide links to back up our big talk. Either that or we just invade. You don't want us to invade you, do you?
Well, since you have the name of "Prune," I'm sure your mother is super proud of you. Like, I'm totally attracted to people who assume the name of a shriveled-up fruit. I respect you, Prune-o, for your valiant name choice. God, it's so deep.
You seem to have skipped this possible explanation:
"We are not inviting them to cross, but we're doing everything we can to save lives," said Elizabeth García Mejía, chief coordinator for the Nogales, Sonora, section of Mexico's Grupo Beta migrant protection service.
Carlos Flores Vizcarra, Mexican consul general of Phoenix, said he had not seen the guide until a reporter showed it to him.
He said the guide appeared to be only the latest attempt by the Mexican government to warn migrants about the dangers of crossing the border without proper documentation.
Seems plausible...people are going to cross illegally, and many will die in the desert (no idea how many is typical, but this article says 100 this year in the Southwest). The Mexican government would rather they get here illegally than die horribly of dehydration (lots of people in the US would too, speaking of how humanitarian we are). This is an attempt to help achieve that goal. They still warn about the dangers of crossing illegally, and do not advocate it in any way. So why are they lying about this reasoning?
I don't know what the deal was with my HTML there (looked fine in the preview), but everything from "Mexican" to "documentation" is one continuous quote from the article linked to in the original post.
My bad.
