Glenn Reynolds writes a little about giving blood and even posts a picture. I always give blood when the bus comes by work; sometimes I'll go two or three times a day just for the cookies, but they start to get suspicious after a while. So I recommened buying a wig.

Mr. Reynolds also mentions:

One interesting observation: This is the first time I've donated on campus where there were more men than women giving. Usually it's quite lopsided in the other direction. One of the techs there told me that it's been that way this year; no idea why.
The first potential explanation that came to my mind -- possibly particularly apt on a college campus -- is that the young men who aren't fighting abroad are keen to make some small contribution.

Maybe the college guys hadn't been told the women weren't coming to the blood drive like they had been, and went to meet women. Which is the #1 reason to do anything in college as a guy.

Nothing like toughly giving blood to impress the chicks.

I've never given blood. I like to say that it is a political thing in that not allowing blood to be sold hurts everyone, but really I'm just a lazy bum. The sad thing is that men tend to have too much iron in thier system and would benefit from having blood drawn, where women tend to have too little iron and are under more stress by having blood drawn.

It could be also that the time of day he went was a time of day when men go more often than women. Many women don't work, or work part-time, so they can go at any time during the day. Since more men work during the day, perhaps he went at a time such as lunchtime or before or after work. I find that this phenomenon results in early morning classes and evening classes being more predominately male; maybe it works the same for blood drives.
