Orange Country Sheriff Michael Carona (who actually is in favor of 2nd Amendment rights, by my understanding) travels with an armed entourage. Meanwhile, another Southern California Sheriff says:
"I wouldn't want to take critical personnel away from doing something else more valuable. I can drive myself," said Riverside County Sheriff Bob Doyle.Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to carry and I can't afford bodyguards, so all I'm left with are my (admittedly impressive) biceps. Still, I'd rather have a gun.Asked how he ensures his own safety, Doyle pointed to his biceps. "Rock," he said, nodding to his left arm, "and roll," nodding to his right. "Them and my gun."

"Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to carry and I can't afford bodyguards, so all I'm left with are my (admittedly impressive) biceps. Still, I'd rather have a gun."
As would I Mr. Williams but here we sit preaching to the choir when no advances are being made at resecuring our constitutional rights. I say this because I am becoming more and more disgusted with what is happening in this state and unfortunately my NRA seems to have left us in the wind while focusing on other states with much easier nuts to crack (did I just say that politicians are nuts?).
Here's the deal as I see it. While fighting for legistlation that would turn California from a "may issue" state to a "shall issue" state would be wonderful, we should begin by fighting for reciprocity with other states such as Florida for example. Reciprocity with other states would be a significant step in the right direction, recognizing anyone with a CCW's right to carry in our state and ours in theirs. Where this works in our favor is it establishes a need for similar training guidlines and removes a politician or local cops ability to grant or deny the constitutional right we are all guaranteed anyway. Secondly, until California becomes a "shall issue" state, by establishing reciprocity with other states, we the people of California would have a second outlet for obtaining our CCW's (i.e. Florida non-resident CCW). There has been others who have taken a similar stance so I don't feel too far off base.
BC: There's no way California will recognize out-of-state permits when our government won't even issue it's own.
Michael.. you should considder looking in to an Israeli self defensive art called KRAV MAGA,, it is HIGHLY effective against armed oponents, in fact it is created specificaly just for that purpose,,you will also be taught how to transform just about anything in your grasp to a deadly weapon,, and learn how to truly master the art of knife fighting,, my chances of defeating an Krav maga expert in a knife fight, with both of us having knifes is about,, 2 percent ( and i am of Gypsy decent mind you! =P ) anyways,, its just a tip. i have looked into it quite a bit and it seem highly effective.
MW: you're probably right, although I suppose there is a slim possibility the Legislature could be persuaded to recognize out of state permits for nonresidents only. IIRC, Michigan sort of did that before it went shall-issue, although it required (and still requires) such permits to be issued by the holder's state of residency.
