Kerry in a Clean Suit

Categories:

Lots of people seem to think John Kerry looks silly in a clean suit, but I don't see what the fuss is about. That's what people wear when they're around expensive and fragile equipment. Big deal.

» Yeah, well... from Accidental Verbosity

Michael Williams has another perspective on Kerry in a bunny clean suit. He does have a point, but it's just so much fun to pick on the guy. Read More

Of all the non-events that get news coverage lately, this probably takes top honors.

The clean suit is a protective outfit worn in a sensitive environment... the goofy wide-eyed grin is not.

He looks like a child exploring a new jungle-gymn at McDonald's. That's why the photo is perceived as "damaging."

What gaw said.

However, when it comes down to it, you're right. If you go to the NASA site and look at ALL the pictures, Kerry almost comes across as a space and technology nut. A good thing, but one some of the pictures spoil by looking out of context, Kerry goofy grin silly.

It's just way too enjoyable to poke fun at the guy.

If looking goofy is "damaging", then how did Bush get elected in 2000?

I'll say it again: this is a non-event.

I don't see what all the fuss was about when Michael Dukakis rode around in a tank in 1988. That's what some people drive in the military. Big deal.

If Kerry visited a Highland Games I wouldn't put him in a kilt (it brings back his little lie by omission regarding his ethnic heritage) nor would I have Bush strap on a six shooter if he were scheduled to attend a quickdraw shooting competition. Some events are better left unattended during a campaign if they provide visuals that would be counterproductive to the image you're trying to project.

Kerry's campaign decided that this was the way to show support for space technology. They made a mistake. It would have been much better to attend the recent Spaceship One launch, or perhaps the one that will win the X Prize (if the Canadians don't get there first). Kerry's campaign could have easily kept the tour to areas that did not require donning a clean suit just as Michael Dukakis could have been pictured next to the tank instead of inside it with that helmet.

All in all, it's not a good sign for a gaffe free Kerry administration.

Agreed that there's nothing inherently silly in a clean suit, or in photographing Kerry while he's wearing one.

(Also agreed that his grin DOES look pretty silly, but that's not all that important.)

I've heard that some are claiming that this was a Republican trick to make Kerry look silly. If someone really thinks so, I'll call THAT silly.

Mark said:

Ha! Gaffe-free Kerry administration? Since when has there ever been a gaffe-free administration?

Third time's the charm: this is a non-event.

Yeah, I just don't think this means anything. If he wanted to tour the craft, he needed a clean suit. It sounds like he didn't expect that there would be pictures, so the fact that they're silly is no worse than if he were photographed looking silly in any other situation.

Now it appears that the Kerry campaign claims that NASA was not supposed to release the pictures, but NASA responds that not only was it cleared but that rush service was requested.

Politicians are always going to be caught on camera looking goofy, and comedians and pundits are going to make hay with it. No big deal. I don't even really agree that Kerry should have avoided the situation in the first place. Goofy pictures are going to turn up no matter what you do.

It's the reaction by the Kerry campaign that's really turned this non-story into a topic of discussion.

Lurch rides in a spaceship - ha, ha. The only thing goofier than Kerry in his little bonnet is his old boss Dukaka with a dutch oven on his head riding in a tank. And some people think these morons are/were fit to rule. I'm just glad Kerry didn't trip on the way out, put in for a purple heart and hire that blood sucker Edwards to "channel" the spirits to convince a jury. BTW any picture of Kerry is goofy. I look forward to his concession speech.

I want to see Kerry wear his little bonnet when he cries out his concession that way we can see what a baby he really is. waaaa, waaaa

Edwards channeling? I thought the only channeling he did was to channel his illgotten 100's of millions into trust funds to avoid taxes - look it up.

And these fat cat hundred millionares have the audacity to talk about the "two Americas". We know which one they live in as they ride around in limos and "do" fine dining.

And what is with that tub Edwards is married to - with his bux he could afford some lipo for his old lady (and get a volume discount to boot!) At least get her a treadmill and a case of slim fast.
