This is why I love the Lakers during the playoffs. Some people say that makes me a bandwagon fan, but c'mon, they don't play with this much energy and determination during the regular season.
I agree! I sometimes watch during the regular season, but ALWAYS watch the playoffs. You can't beat the intensity and excitement.
I'll answer your email in a bit. :-)
Didn't you recently have a post about the different design of engineers' brains where you mentioned that you weren't interested in sports? Wouldn't this sort of contradict it?
What I'm getting at isn't a "you hypocrite!" thing. Rather, it just shows that sports are at a low priority for you, and major sporting events tend to bring the interest up?
I point this out because I'm the same way. I care about the outcome of games for teams I like, but not the games themselves. However, I not only sat and watched Cal's recent bowl game, but I watch all the Kings' playoff games. Why? Because these are the ones that matter.
Point being, maybe you're not as different as you think.
Oh, and the Lakers suck.
There was such poetic justice in it being Derek Fisher, the guy who made way for Gary Payton, giving up his starting role without a hint of disgruntlement, who is always ready to do the tough work on defense, to dive on the floor, to take the charge, who ended up making the shot that gave the game, and quite possibly the series and the championship, to the Lakers.
The Lakers are evil incarnate and must be destroyed.
I long for the day when they are laid low, like the Chicago Bulls have been.
