Idiot.

Words fail me. I hate it when people do this. If you want to park in compact spaces, buy a compact car. #!%(!#&%(&@#!%

I've always wanted to just park my compact car behind them so they cannot leave. If I had time to wait and watch what happens, and if it did not interfere with other citizens, it would be a fun experiment. (Being rather slight of frame, I would have to bring some friends along too.)

Nice post. Next time post a pic that includes his license plate, so readers of your blog who encounter him at random can mock him in person.

The idiot's brother parks in my car lot. We don't have compact spaces, so there wouldn't be a problem if he was careful enough to mark within his spac.e Instead, he double-parks, figuring he'll get two spaces to himself for the price of one. Wrong. If I ride, no big deal, plenty of room. If I drive, still no big deal: my Toyota MR2 can squeeze in almost anywhere. So I park in that tiny space, which is by far the best space still available on the lot. My car is within the lines, of course, but I just barely have room to get out of the car. This means that if Mr. Idiot is on my right, he has no room at all when he returns to his car. Sometimes, Sr. Idiota even has the cojones to leave me a nasty note accusing me of parking too close to his precious car.

On the one hand, being a person who drives a large vehicle, I could almost - ALMOST - overlook something like this. After all, the compact spots are smaller than normal, and if you can't squeeze into a single normal spot, then better to take 2 small ones rather than 2 big ones. (Not that I do that.)

HOWEVER, this person should ask him/herself, "Do I REALLY need to drive this big ol' monstrosity?" *I* do, but my reasons are along the lines of "carry supplies to perform major repairs on 2 houses before lunch", not "carry the kid's soccer team to pizza" or "try to impress people who don't care with the sheer size of my vehicle". ~sigh~

When faced with the dilemma of "can't fit into a single space" - for whatever reason - then I park WELL AWAY from other cars, usually toward the far end of the parking lot, since that's where the empty spaces usually are. When faced with the dilemma of "park 20 feet closer to the building", I just grit my teeth and remember that I don't want to be grouped with people like this jerk - I'm not handicapped and can easily walk an extra hundred yards.

...Jeez, maybe next time I'll try not to write a novel in the comments section.

On the other hand, I reluctantly drive a big car (Crown Vic), and delight in tormenting people who don't or can't park between the lines, with extra effort given to those who drive vehicles that strive for biggness (Excursion, Escalade, etc), or people who do it to protect their "precious".

My car of choice would be a sub-compact, but because I have no faith in the ability of others to pay attention to the road, I drive the safest vehicle I can find.

Where's a good PRT system when you need it?

Xrlq: It was a new vehicle and didn't have a plate! Otherwise I would have, believe me.

This reminds of me something I almost ranted about yesterday.

I drive to work on a road named Craig Road. It's a nice street, really. It has a school on it, so you have to slow down a bit for the school zone. It also has really, really wide shoulders; I'm not sure why.

There are signs, though, that state every mile or so "Do not drive on the shoulder." So what does everyone do? You guessed it - they drive on the shoulder. WHY? The road is plenty wide? It's not as though drivers don't get practice driving in the lines; obviously they must succeed in doing so at least MOST of the time, for they are still alive to drive, no?

Every day, though, I see at least one car that can't seem to abide by the sign.

And I have to wonder...if the sign weren't there, would anyone drive on the shoulder????

I really hope someone gave a nice key job to that rig.

Seriously, unless you park at the far end of the parking lot, parking like this clearly states that you couldn't care less about the people around you.

For that, there should be a price.

As a driver of a large vehicle, and, an ex truck driver, I take a very dim view of idiots that park like this.

As others have commented, I park well away from others out of consideration. My way of dealing with idiots like this: I carry an ice pick.

An ice pick through the sidewall of the tire ruins it for good. CAN'T be fixed. Also, ice pick holes through the sheet metal cost about $100 each to repair.

Enjoy!
