This is totally cool, and I haven't seen it anywhere else yet. My brother sent me a link to some a video of dancing robots built by Sony. The articulation and smoothness of motion is amazing! I'd seen pictures of the robots before, but now that I've seen them in action I'm a believer.
Update:
The Window Manager informs us that the robots in the video are called QRIO, and that they were shown off at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Update 2:
Here's a site with more pictures of what it calls the QURO, but appears to be the same as the QRIO. Passed on my an anonymous commenter in the wrong thread.

I saw the demo yesterday at CES and put him in my post (although I didn't mention the dancing).
These robots are VERY impressive. I wanted one after I saw it, but they won't be on the market for a LONG time (and the much less advanced AIBO is still $1500).
You think that there'll be a robot team beating the human champions by 2050? It looks more and more likely...
The human dance champions? Ha, sure, these robots were already better than most human dancers I've seen. I wonder if they were radio-controlled, or pre-programmed? It seems like it would be hard to keep them synchronized without an external clock.
Actually I wasn't being very precise, sorry... I meant that Robot Soccer thing, beating the World Cup Team.
They'll have to be taller than 18 inches then!
Yet another thing machines can do better than me...
Oh my god, I can't believe they fricking did it. . . . . .
Okay -- very cool video. But come on, something is very wrong in this world when, in 2004, we have dancing robots but no flying cars! Come on!
And robots to drive our flying rocket cars!
We're so dead. Robots will take over the world and kill you.
They may kill you, but never me!
The time to form the Human alliance against the robot juggernaut is nigh!
they may kill you guys but i have somthing that i like to call an emp... they will never get close!!
does any one know what that last song is called... i cant get the damn thing out of my head!!!
I have seen the future, and thank god it isn't that AIBO dog that doesn't seem to understand any of the commands I request of him with my NY/NJ accent.
How do I find out about the Sony dancing robot? Is there a PR person?
