Arnold and his wife, Maria Shriver, had a joint appearance on Oprah -- part of an effort to subtly defend against the idea that Arnold is a "woman-hater". It was all very routine for a "behind the scenes" look at a political candidate.
What stood out to me the most was what Shriver said she desired for her children:
The couple also told about raising their children and the fact that each has to do their own laundry and help clean the dishes. "We want to raise kind, polite grateful children," she said.For many parents I know, the qualities they desire for their children are more along the lines of success, happiness, and self-esteem. It is impressive to me that Shriver's desires for her children are not wholly self-focused. Kind, polite, and grateful... what more could a parent ask for?
I couldn't agree more! That statement really stuck with me. If parents could just instill those 3 things into their children we would be a much better world for it! I didn't know what to think of Maria Shriver before and I'm sure I don't agree with much of her politics, but this her statement gave me a new-found respect for her and Ah-nuld.
