So I went to Toys 'R' Us this afternoon to find a rad gift for this girl from church who invited me to her birthday party tomorrow. Hmmm, Legos... everyone loves Legos. Wait! What's this? Mini Star Wars Legos? Collect them all?! Well ok, if you insist.

Guess what I did this afternoon. Go ahead.

Millenium Falcon. Yes, it totally rules.

Rebel X-Wing.

Imperial AT-AT, with Snow Speeder.

Imperial AT-ST (which barely stood up), with Jedi Starfighter.

Slave 1, with Jedi Starfighter.

Imperial TIE Bomber.

Imperial TIE Advanced.

Out of curiosity, why is it that I don't know any girls who still play with dolls/legos/etc., but I know plenty of guys who play with action figures, legos and video games constantly? I mean, sure, I might've played a few rounds of the Sweet Valley High board game this summer, but I don't do it on a regular basis.

Well I don't play with Legos on a regular basis, or many other types of toys. I play computer games sometimes, but not that often. Some computer games are toy-like, but others are more book-like or movie-like, so it depends.

You know guys our age who play with action figures constantly? Or even every day? Every week? I think that's a bit odd.

Legos are fun because you get to build them. You don't really "play" with them after you're done, they just sort of sit there. The fun is in the building. I love building Lego models, and I used to design my own. In fact, I'll put up a picture of my most recent design later. It's pretty awesome.

As to "why?"... I guess girls are just more mature :)

I still play with Legos occasionally. We have some at work in the geek playpen.

I really don't know that many geeks who don't play with Legos. Which reminds me, I need to get a couple of Mindstorm kits...

Sir!

The proper pluralization of Lego is Lego! Or, if you must, Lego bricks. Legos, indeed.

By the way, was the Seattle Lenin statue in the news today? I wrote about it 2.5 years ago on my site but for some reason have received dozens of visitors just today looking for information about it.

I wasn't aware of the proper plural for "Lego", but "Legos" did look a bit odd. I stand corrected.

As for the statue of Lenin, I don't know. I haven't seen a surge of interest in it today. The site you mention in your post (Lenins around the world) looks like it might be the first one I found a picture of Seattle's Lenin on.

Well, I don't understand it. The "Seattle Lenin Statue" referrals keep coming for me. Maybe one of them will email me with an explanation.

I did find this news item:

"LENIN MONUMENT SUCCUMBS TO DIALECTICAL FORCES IN KYRGYZSTAN
A EurasiaNet Photo Essay by Alexander Shablovsky: 8/29/03"

http://www.eurasianet.org/departments/culture/articles/eav082903.shtml

Nothing to do with Seattle, of course.

Pish tosh! Legos is the plural of Lego. I've said it that way since I was a kid, and since LegoS belong to kids, that's what it shall be!

Oh, and I bought the X-Wing and Darth Vader's TIE for my son not long ago and he loves them. Need to get some more of those...

What's great are the 3D Puzzzzzles from Leapfrog (?) I believe. All the great buildings, monuments, etc. My son and I enjoy building the miniature ones like Model T cars, B1 Bombers, Fire Engines, etc - plus the Bongo Sub and Darth Maul's ship from SW: The Phantom Menace!

I have the US Capitol Building on top of my bookcase, and R2-D2 on top of my computer desk (with working sound!)

I remember soon after 9/11, the puzzles of the NYC skyline with the WTC were selling as collector's items - haven't seen any in the stores since...
