Sydney Smith, a family physician, of MedPundit, writing on Tech Central Station:

Who, after all, could consider a fetus as life unworthy of living, once they've held its hand?

Via Dean Esmay, who is pro-choice but believes that surveys indicate that support for abortion -- even among women -- is fading fast. As technology advances, the evil of abortion becomes clearer and clearer.

Yippy! I just found out I'm pregnant with number 5! I tried to tell my husband but he said he was too busy to talk and would call back when he had a second, so I had to tell someone! My first 4 are all unique and beautiful gifts from God and so is this tiny one!

Good for you.

I assume that what you're trying to say is that some people are not, in fact, unique and special -- but are instead disposable. That's an argument you're welcome to make, but I suspect you'll have a hard time selling it to the public. Or maybe not... the communists and Nazis were successful for a while.

It's true that people need to stop having kids they can't afford, but it's so easy to prevent pregnancy these days that there's really no excuse for it to "just happen", other than laziness.

What you probably fail to realize and accept is that pro-lifers believe that unborn babies are actually human beings, and should therefore not be subject to death simply because they are "inconvenient".

By the way, this is the 731st comment on my site -- the number of comments is now equal to the number of posts.

No Michael, what I am trying to say is that I am thrilled because EVERY child is created by God and given as a gift to us from Him. It's a powerful thing to have the God of the universe actually give you the gift of another human being to care for. I have had 7 miscarriages and grieved mightily for each one. Each one of those was a person too, regardless of how small. So I think you misunderstood me. I am vehemently pro-life even in the case of rape and incest! I also believe that the best gift a person can give their child is another sibling regardless of their income or status!

All of your sniping "arguments" are focused in the completely wrong direction. No matter what benefits abortion may provide to the mother or her other children, the fact that I believe that abortion kills a human being supercedes nearly all of those supposed benefits.

In instances where the life of the mother is at risk, then abortion can be treated similarly to self-defense homicide.

I will probably delete any further postings by you on this subject.

Hmmm Michael,
Who are you arguing with? I think mommy is agreeing with you?

I think it's pretty obvious that "mommy" is being sarcastic and mocking.

Lurker said:

If so, then I'm not getting the sarcasm at all. I've been wrong before, maybe I'm just dense or my BS detector is broken.

Michael,
Though I like to stay and debate some more, I gotta run, and if you're checking your logs I'm not Mommy. Maybe I'll stop back in again, if if haven't worn out my welcome....

Mommy,
If you really are being sarcastic, then shame on you; if not, and I'm right, then congratulations!

All right Michael, now you're pissing me off (my hormones have a mind of their own right now). But I will share an experience of mine with you. From 1985 to 1992 I worked in a major hospital that happened to perform abortions. In all of my years there I had hundred of abortion reports cross my desk. Only once was a baby aborted because it had a defect that bothered the parents. Most women were in for their 2nd or 3rd abortion (usually at taxpayer expense)and one woman had had 11 abortions so it was no wonder when she decided to keep the 12th the baby delivered at 25 weeks! Never was a baby aborted because of rape or incest (and the reports were always quite detailed in regard to the woman's "situation") but I do recall one woman who aborted her baby because she already had plans to go on a cruise and didn't want the inconvenience of being nauseated on her trip! That's the reality that Planned "Parenthood" does not share with us. By the way, a dear friend of mine was raped at 17 and became pregnant. That little girl is now 11 years old and her adoptive parents were never so blessed as the day she entered their lives! Now, I will again warn you, I have raging hormones and ...oh never mind, I need to go vomit...excuse me...

Oh. I apologize, Mommy, and I feel like a jerk. Abortion is an important issue to me, and for whatever reason I took what you were saying in the wrong way. I appreciate your comments, and I hope I haven't offended you too seriously.

Don't worry. I'm not easily offended and I can take whatever is being dished out. :-p Thanks to the others for the support and congratulations though!

Here's a terrifying statistic. The number of abortions from 1973 to 1999 is around 38,000,000. According to the 2000 census, there's around 119,000,000 U.S. Citizens under 30. That means that abortions have wiped out over 25% of the population under 30 years of age.

Scary stuff.

jonag said:

Maybe if you changed your wording and said 38,000,000 TAXPAYERS were aborted, the Democrats might change their views!

That, Bitweaver, is a frightening way to look at it. I hadn't thought about it. Imagine the implications for social security! Ha!

why would anyone want to kill a little baby? its sad when you learn about these things and why they do them. nobdy has the right to kill anybody.
its stupid why they do it. really these girls getting pregnant are really stupid. havent you ever heard of comdoms, birth pills.its not the babies fault. if you dont wanna keep it, dont kill it, just give it up for adoption.the baby will be better off with someone else.

Abortion is the killing of Human life.

I am a muslim and have been told by my wife who is from Pakistan that it is the norm nowadays, by women who find out early on through scanning that they are pregnant with daughters, to have the backstreet abortions.

I find it shockingly unbelievable that many of them are even aware that this practice is wholly unislamic.

I keep telling my wife that the Catholics most certainly hold the higher moral ground on this one, than some of our modern village thinkers.

I am exploring both sides of the debate. I used to be pro-choice, because I valued individual rights. However, I then realized that by the same standard, there would need to be some sort of rights for a developing human as well. I would certainly oppose late term / partial birth aboritions, however I feel that there would need to be a definition of when is an impregnated egg eligable for such rights. It seems that it's a slippery slope to say at the moment of the joining of the egg & sperm. Do the egg & sperm have individual rights, as autonomous cells?

I am 100% serious on this inquiry. I do value all life and do not condone the exploitation of human or animal life in anyform for the benefit of others. I am a vegan, and think that there is no reason not to extend the same rights to all living beings as we extend to our own kind -- it seems that simply because an organism hasn't the luck of advantageous DNA sequence that it should be used by those that do.

Additionally, it is intresting to note the crime rate has declined significantly since Roe v. Wade -- apparenlty the cause being that less babies are born into poverty, which is a influence on violent crime.

I would rather see social systems in place to care for every child -- universal education & healthcare, than to allow abortion. But it is also grossly hypocritical to be pro-life, but also support the death pentalty as many do.

The tax base idea is an intresting point -- however, with the increase in children in poverty, perhaps we will see a violent uprsing of the lower classes.. Perhaps Roe v. Wade delayed the worker uprising predicted by so many sociologists...

hi, umm on this topic, i am opposed to late term abortions. But, what about if a person is on some for of control, and it does not work?? Like, for instance, condoms break, and statistically, for each type of birth control, there is a percent of people who get pregnant anyway. Also there are people who cannot for reasons such as allergies, use certain types of birth control.
I am not at all, in any way, a supporter of late term abortions, however i do feel that if a woman was raped, or was using a birth controll that failed that the person could use a 72 hour pill. which also has a percent of women that still stay pregnant, SO for all of the "un wanted" babies there is someone out there who may be infertile, or be hoping to adopt for any reason.
Please respond. i would like to talk to some one on this subject. I have been on the Depo-provera shot as birth control. I am 17, i have a job, but i don't get many hours, so i'm looking for a better job that will work me. Any how, for the first 3 months on the shot the woman is expected to have her period straight through. I have talked to my doctor over and over, I have been bleeding for 15 months and have not taken the last dose (the 6th) which was to be in december. I have told my doctor of this and of the fact that of th 18 side effects i had 5, and the list was slowly increasing. this shot isn't to be taken for 2 years any way, but now i have to wait for who knows how much longer to see if my endless period will end. Just recently, i had sex and used a condom and had my boyfriend even pull out early just incase the condom were to break. It did. I am an extreme worry-wart, so i talked to the same doctor and i took the 72 hour pill as he instructed me to do so. however, if i am still pregnant i will raise this child. and i will be happy to do so. i have prayed to god to ask him what to do and to give me signs and so far this is what it seems i am to do. I have 2 sisters who have been very trashy, (they get around) and they both have children, both born before the mother was 18. The younger of the 2 is not a High school graduate, does not have a job, and isn't looking. She is a terrible mother and DYFS would have a feild day fixing that situation. The second sister, graduated, pregnant her Senior year. She is a DYFS feild day as well because she has been back and forth with the father who is a current heroin addict. She is going back to him again, right now. It is not right, both mothers living with thier parents, moving from here to there, and all the little things, too. If a person is to become pregnant late term abortions are WRONG! If you have the child and things arent right, try to give the child to adoption, a better family deserves the child. A loving family. Don't make the baby grow up in a bad place. Let a deserving family raise a happy healthy child. Do not think that just because you cannot afford a child that it should be terminated. If you contact an appropriate adoption agency they will find a family that will follow and pay for any expences during the pregnancy. So there is no excuse in any situation that i can see. Please respond.
