Everyone you know, including yourself, should go read about The Fair Tax Act of 2003. Go ahead, I'll wait.

If you're simply too lazy, let me summarize:

Here are the highlights. If The Fair Tax Act were to become law, the following would happen.

1. The law establishing the federal income tax would be repealed, both for individuals and for businesses.

2. A constitutional amendment repealing the 16th Amendment would be sent to the states for ratification.

3. All laws providing for payroll taxes for the funding of Social Security and Medicare would be repealed.

4. A sales tax would be instituted on the sale of all goods and services at the retail level. This retail sales tax would replace all payroll and federal income taxes.

5. Government funding would remain at present levels, and no changes would be made to Social Security and Medicare other than the method of funding those programs.

H.R. 25 is in the hopper, and it's got friends in high places. I suggest that you find your representative and write them a letter, urging them to support it. I'm going to do it right now. Don't know what to say? Ok, let's work on it together.

Dear Rep. Maxine Waters [put your representative here],

The Fair Tax Act of 2003 (H.R. 25) has come to my attention, and I am writing to urge you to vote in favor. America's oppressive tax structure is strangling our workers and our businesses, and it's critical that we rebuild it completely from the ground up. The Fair Tax Act of 2003 will give us a radical new beginning, and will not endanger any of our essential government programs in the process.

Please vote in favor of the Fair Tax Act of 2003 (H.R. 25).

Thank you,
Michael Williams [put your name here]
Hawthorne, CA [put your location here, it's important]

Once you write the letter, stick it in an envelope mail it to your representative. You can also sent it via the web, but it won't get as much attention.

Democracy in action, my friends; it tastes so good. Thanks to Bill Hobbs for pointing this out.

Do you know anything about the Fair Tax of 2001? Is this the same thing? I am an 8th grade student doing a report.

The Fair Tax Act of 2003 would stifle consumerism in America in a way that would send us spiraling into a deep, deep depression. We all love the idea of abolishing the IRS and making taxes fairer, but this Act is so flawed that no reasonable person should support it. Let's put our energy into closing tax loopholes and simplifying the code, as well as holding the IRS accountable for their actions.

TR: Sorry I didn't notice your comment long ago....

CK: Oh please. States all have sales tax and it doesn't "stifle consumerism", whatever that means. People would have far more money if their wages weren't garnished by the feds before they even got the checks, and they'd spend it. You've got no basis for your scenario.

I've researched the Fair Tax Act and it is by far the most positive act of legislation ever proposed. It is a win win for every American. It encourages the thing we want to encourge, production, and it removes the gorilla (IRS) off the backs of hard working Americans.

Anne S.,

I have done the same (research) and I totally agree. Any person in their right mind would support this bill if they had EVERY piece of information about it. There are some things that are often left out when talking about it in the media, such as the monthly rebate that we would all get. You can find out everything that you would ever want at www.fairtax.org.

it seems that most people say that the fair tax will remove the 20% embedded tax that 'producers' currently have and pass on to consumer (except that the manufacturer is responsible)....this 20% is the low-end. the fair tax shifts this "liability" to the consumer for an estimated 23% (low-end), Prices would only drop on the shelves, however the same "cost" of the product would be the same......again, another republican policy that ultimately benefits 'business'......also, even though the IRS gets abolished.....what clever 'entity' will they come up to replace it?, afterall who will track these new taxes and disperse the monthly rebate checks?

scott: I don't entirely understand what you wrote, bit appears that you're saying that prices wouldn't really drop, which is correct, but don't forget that without the income tax income will rise.

Lets do it people!!!
At last a Title 26 code book burning and the end to the American Gestapo. Burn Baby Burn!!!

So sorry H&R Block, CPA's, Tax Attorneys (Especially the prosecution morons), low life tax code writers who use legal sophistry to confuse you so you are forced to hire legal help to interpret this BS, and all IRS Gestapo Employees. Now you can train to become contributing members of society instead of playing to a destructive partisan blight of code, which serves only politicians in consuming our substance.
But, we have to do the right thing and abolish this hideous abomination that has allowed the Federal Government Carte Blanch into every aspect of our lives.

Not to mention 99% of all political campaign rhetoric becoming extinct and the brainwashed public's belief that the IRS CODE is some un-repealing divine scripture that our elected officials use to grant and assess our value added existence of which our sole purpose is revenue based. (TAXPAYERS) How condescending!!!

This 26 crap hasn't even been enacted as positive law. It's only Prema Facia.

Every IRS field office and computers should be donated to the community in which it resides and the building turned into a flower shop or funeral home with a plaque inscription:

"HR2525 The Fair Tax Act of 2003
The abolishment of the IRS and Government
Usurpation.

Former IRS Field Office.

Back to the depths of Hell by which it came... It's ugly head never to rear again. May privacy, peace and tranquility of our financial and personal lives this day forth be forever secured as our founding fathers intended... AMEN"

US CONSTITUTION IV Amendment Paragraph I:
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against
unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be
violated; and no Warrants shall issue but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be
searched, and the persons or things to be seized."
(Not to mention several other guaranteed rights violated.)

Wise up everyone... Be positive!!
It's going to be Shangri-La!

No tax returns (time wasted filling/filing this crap), No IRS, No deadlines, fines, wasting money on tax attorneys and tax preparers, keeping records, Tax evasion threats, giving a rat’s ass about tax code changes and who gets a break and who doesn't political football election year rhetoric.
No H&R Block Commercials!!!
Now we can concentrate on important stuff.

Shoot it in the head and bury it already!!!
