EconoPundit is competing in this week's New Blog Showcase over at Truth Laid Bear. Steve's submission notes that since FDR's administration the Democrats have built their constituency through what is (essentially) a nefarious form of bribery -- they buy our votes with our own money. They take $1 from our pockets, waste 50 cents, and spend the other 50 cents on inefficient nonsense that we wouldn't buy for ourselves if we had the choice. Oh, right, and then they tell us it's "free".

The more money the government has, the more power it has. As I've noted in the past, the solution to government corruption isn't so-called campaign finance reform; power corrupts, and the only way to reduce the corruption within the federal government is to reduce its power.

Waste 50% of it huh. You must not be aware that the overhead costs of Medicare are 3.2%, Medicaid 3.7% and Canada's national health care system 1.7%. This compares with 11.9% for private health care insurance.

My only question is what has anyone ever done to you to make you hate government so much. Oh yeah, you complain about paying taxes. Well you pay a lot more to corporations so they can have the pleasure of ripping you off. A weak government means no counter-balance to corporate power.

Most polls indicate that a majority of American favor a national health care system. Why should we be denied that because a bunch of whiners don't want to pay their fair share?

Mike: I'd love to see some sources for your claim of Medicare waste. I highly doubt that what they consider waste is the same as what I'd consider waste, since my conception of waste includes much of the bureaucracy itself.

to even think that the government is a good steward of OUR money is insane. just how much government waste needs to be shoved in your face for you to get it? perhaps you should try
canadian healthcare before singing its praises. i guess the hoards of people coming to the u.s. from canada for medical treatment might speak toward the effectivness of the system.
you asked why people dislike (distrust) the government. why do you like it? is it because they have the power to take money that i have worked for and give it to you for no reason at all. you, i guess, are willing to take the free meals and medical care in exchange for your rights that the government takes in return. you trash buisness when it is private business that is responsible for most of the successes of our society. the only thing the government can produce is more government.
if, as you say, most people support national healthcare then most of the people are misinformed on the subject. i am also reminded that the majority is not always correct. wasn't it only 30% of the people that wanted to form this nation back in 1776. thank god the majority was ignored.
