Opinion Journal quotes this headline from Pravda: "Russian Weapons Make All Countries Feel Safe". The article itself is quite an interesting read, and the title is fun to analyze -- Russian weapons don't make countries safe, they just make countries feel safe. The countries that have the Russian weapons, or those countries' enemies? Here are some other choice bits.
It became obvious after Iraq ingloriously surrendered to coalition forces of the USA and Great Britain: no country could feel safe without nuclear, chemical or biological weapons.Actually, Iraq's forces, and their Russian weapons, were totally defeated.
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Ivanov happily stated during his visit to South Korea that a number of addresses to the Russian Defense Ministry pertaining to deliveries of up-to-date conventional arms had increased greatly. The minister did not fail to thank the American government for advertising cheap and reliable Russian arms for free.I really hope that all our enemies buy Russian weapons, please oh please. I think our government should endorse them heavily.
The popularity of the Russian weapons has not suffered a bit on account of the fact that the Iraqi army lost the war. At the end of the day, the Soviet weapons - Kalashnikov guns, MiG planes and guided missiles - defeated the American army in Vietnam.Where to start? Russian weapons defeated American soldiers who fought with their hands tied behind their backs 30 years ago. Why not buy weapons from the American Indians? They defeated Custer a while back.
A lot of countries (especially Muslim ones) evince their interest in compact anti-aircraft complex Phoenix, which is capable of detecting and downing air targets.Figure that one out.
The Russian leadership will need to have a lot of courage and political will to arm the whole world. Russia might help a lot of countries in this respect, if it is allowed to do so, of course.I hope they do sell weapons to the world. It will help their economy, and weaken our enemies at the same time.
It is worth mentioning here that members of the Saudi royal family have already released public statements like "we are buying Russian weapons whenever we want, and the USA is not an instructor to us." It is rather hard to imagine that American officials will quietly watch the Russian defense industry selling more and more modern weapons, especially to those countries, which might become another target for the USA to hit.I guess everyone knows by now that Saudi Arabia is on The List. I hope their Russian weapons don't kill us all when we come knocking.

Keep in mind that Iraq had seventees' Russian weapons and not the latest Russians can offer. In the future, please specify in detail what they really had, i.e. outdated Soviet equipment, which in today's war is practically useless against modern russian arms, i.e. Su-30s, aa , sa and the list goes on.
Art: Russia builds crap. Always has. They value equipment over humans, because humans are cheaper, so they build equipment with that in mind. It's a philisophical difference between them and the West. And don't tell me how to write "in the future". If you want details, write 'em yourself.
Actually Michael, Art is very correct. Russian arms manufacturers now build world class weapons that need to compete against their western couterparts. Recents events such as CopeIndia 04' prove that the gap in performance has been reduced considerably. Had Iraq been equiped with a strong network of S-300 /S-400 SAMs, upgraded Mig-31's, Su-30's, and the latest T-90's with thermal optical sights and modern ammo, the end result would have been the same, but with a much higher number of casualties. Even when Russia was selling equipment to Iraq in the 70's and 80's, it was the "export" version of their equipment. Do you think Pakistan would prove a challenge to the U.S. with Pakistan equiped with U.S. gear? I think not!
Ooh come on, Michal! Seems that whole world gathered together to compete with russian arms. Some analists say that there is only two countries for the near future dangerous for US and Europe -- Russia and China. We should be very careful with those gays.
Does USA likes Russia making new indetectable submarines?, new orbital weapons capable of destroy your country?, new aircraft that can destroy yor best fighters?, and better thanks with active defenses that you dont have? those are a few examples of russian tecnology ahead of you, you that spend much more money, but stay behind, thats very sad.
If you are so good pilots, why dont you accept the challenges made by russian pilots to make a test?... you lost to russian sukhois with WELL TRAINED Indian Pilots, thats why you dont want to fight against better trained Russian Pilots in even better aircraft... little examples...
The day will come when Russia destroy NATO an and the inmoral USA, because your dirty and corrupt politics will atract destruction for your own empire.
Sack russian planes.
Well, may be americans do design their aircrafts and vehicles based on a human comfortability, but as the most of americans are morbidly obese this renders them unusable. 'Average' sized american needs now to book two seats in an airplane. Bloody pigs!
If and when Russia goes head to head with US, neither will win
guarantee
America should sell F-16 the latest to Pakistan, because Pakistan is a good country and also Pakistan is trying to keep up it's military with India.
8 years in the military chasing russians. read alot about militaries of the world. collect military arms. married to a russian. the russians do have some nice systems on the drawing boards but can't field them in the numbers needed due to a lack of funds. i don't think they can match the u.s. in any area when it comes to hardware. their system did not encourage development due to a lack of rewards. if you have seen or handled soviet equipment then you will know it falls short. sometimes we would think that they had developed something really great when in reality it just was not as sorry as the previous model. a good example of their quality is the kursk. the brits had given up the same torpedo drive system many years ago because it was unstable but the russians kept it. as far as no one winning a war between the two i disagree. it would be tough but i believe we win. and no i have not forgotten the nukes.
don't discount the russians- one thing you can guarantee is if they've got something really good, the first time you'll see it is when it's pointing in your direction.
mr. auluk- you are right- pakistan is a good country, in the very same way islam is a peaceful religion.
the recent reorganisation of the whole russian weapons industry and export agency (rosboronexport) is testament to the fact that they're getting their act together after a 20 year pause.
Russia has technolgy that we've never seen. They are now selling it to Iran. They are in debt fromm all the wars they've been into. Buy selling weapons cheap, they are once again going to get their technolgy on to an actual put it to use atmosphere. Russia is selling weapons to Iran to take over Isreal. Don't believe me? Read Ezekiel Ch 36-39. "One country is silent the other one is fallen. They are two broken sticks that will join together. They will try to take over Isreal for selfish reasons, but will fail because they are my people." The people of this country recently went to the White House to discuss helping Isreal. They are selling weapons to Iran. It's bible prophecy don't believe me? Ezekiel 36-39.

Russia said to stay out of their business because they have missiles that go over 200 mph. They said if we interfere with anything we won't like what happens. I wish that the government would know when to gight and when to stay the hell out of certain things
