A fascinating UPI story gives a bunch of statistics about interracial marriages from the 2000 US Census. The two biggest pieces of news are:

  • African-American men had white wives 2.65 times more often than black women had white husbands. In other words, in 73 percent of black-white couples, the husband was black. For every 1,000 black women who were married, there were 1,059 black married men.
  • Asian women had white husbands 3.08 times more often than Asian men had white wives. That means just over 75 percent of white-Asian couples featured a white husband and Asian wife. For every 1,000 Asian women with husbands, only 860 Asian men had wives.

The article goes on to discuss other statistics, but it never addresses the long term effects that these disparities will have on the US population. The overall racial (and mixed-racial) breakdown of the population won't be affected much, but any traits that are particularly strongly represented among black women or among Asian men will become diluted over the generations.

Your statistics are USELESS as they give no actual numbers of the total number of interracial couples for Blacks or Asian.

    Why bother to post this?

dumb: Uh, aren't the relative numbers more useful than the absolute numbers?

Interracial dating is increasing among black men and white women but your starting to see more black women with white men as well. I think on the positive side of the coin, interracial dating helps race relations not hurt it. As people fall in love more these days other factors besides race may play a part in choosing a desirable mate. As a black man who has dated both white and black women, the white women I was with it more about who I was as a person and not my color. With the black women I was with it was more of an attitude that really turned me off. I have also dated asian women as well. I don't hate or disrepect black women I just find myself more attracted to white women. Am I a sell-out to my own race if I date mainly white women? No.

I am a black woman who have always been more attracted mentally and physically to white men but due to my strict up bringing and the pressure from society not to date interracially, my first few boyfriends were black men. Each relationship failed miserably, though I don't have anything against black men but I find that I tend to communicate better with white men.

Eight years ago, I blew other people's opinions and disapproval to the wind and started dating whoever I wanted. The only happy, compatible stable relationships that I have experienced were with men who happen to be white. Now I am with a wonder man and we are engaged to be married.

Here is a comment for the sisters who have one bad relationship after the other with black men, better your chances of meeting a good man by opening you dating options to include other races also, just like many black men are doing today.
